Photography workshops have been organised successfully since 1985.
A workshop is a unique and exciting way of learning. With many photographers working in isolation the workshops offer an opportunity for the sharing of ideas and problems and participation in practical demonstrations, field trips and personal work appraisal.
This year two of the workshops are being held on Inis Mor, Aran Islands, Co.Galway, which will provide a wonderful backdrop for photographers to work in a creative environment. The other workshops are being held in Sandycove, County Dublin and accommodation can be arranged for those who wish to stay overnight.
July 2 – 3 Paul Hill – Where to Now? This workshop will help those who are trying to find or take a new direction in their work. Participants who want to revitalise their work and who want feedback, will be helped through practical exercises and critique sessions. Paul will also discuss the sequencing of photographs, particularly in relation to books. Fee: £100.00
July 30 – August 1 John Blakemore A workshop with John Blakemore is always a unique experience. This three day workshop will consist of practical printing demonstrations showing the use of different papers and producing fine quality exhibition prints. As well as printing John will also discuss students’ work, demonstrate how to make hand-made books, and talk about his own photographs. Fee: £125.00
August 3 – 5 Chris Killip and Marketa Luskacova This workshop to be held on the Aran Islands is designed to extend the participants’ understanding of the process through which meaning is conveyed in photography by exploring the issues that photography raises in relation to subjectivity. Seminar/lectures will give consideration to text-image relationships, the ethics and politics of representation and the institutions governing photographic practice. There will be an initial portfolio review and participants should bring an extensive selection of their work, including contact sheets. Fee: £155.00
August 20 – 22 Michael Collins This workshop to be held on the Aran Islands at Mainister House will deal with the subject of picture essays.
